Over the weekend of May 17th, Superior STEAM took two teams of elementary aged kids to the Area II 4-H Robotics Challenge. This year the teams had to not only solve a problem, but decide what problem they wanted to solve using a robot built and programmed from LEGO components. The teams only had three weeks to pick out the problem they wanted to solve, design a solution, build the solution, and test the solution.
The STEAMROLLERS built a rock sorter to sort rock into different containers. They put a rock on a conveyor and a sensor would decide which container the rock went in by color.
The Krazy Kats built a kat and programmed it to be a companion. They have a program that will "chase a mouse", purr when picked up, and even run away.
At the end of the day, the STEAMROLLERS were the Reverse Champion (2nd place team) and the Krazy Kats were the Champion (1st place team). This marks the second year in a row where Superior STEAM's teams have brought home 1st and 2nd place from this challenge.
